Newborn Session Information

Congratulations on your impending or new arrival!

Welcoming a new baby is such a special time, and I’m honoured to help you capture these first fleeting moments.

When to Book Your Newborn Session

Where possible, newborn photography is best scheduled within the first two weeks after birth. During this time, babies are typically sleepier, more settled, and more comfortable being gently posed. As babies grow, they often become more alert and may experience wind or reflux, which can impact their comfort during a session.

That said, every baby is different. If your little one is older, I will always do my best to accommodate them and work at a pace that suits their needs.

Studio Location & Booking

All newborn photography sessions take place in my home-based studio in Flynn, Canberra. When booking, we tentatively schedule your session for approximately 8–9 days after your due date, then adjust if needed once your baby arrives.

As availability is limited and sessions often book out months in advance, I strongly recommend securing your session as early as possible.

My Approach & Style

As a boutique Canberra newborn photographer, I focus on creating timeless, beautifully styled images that will be treasured for years to come. I use only the finest handcrafted wraps, props, and accessories, sourced with both quality and baby comfort in mind.

Your images are captured using professional, state-of-the-art equipment and stored securely. All post-processing and fine retouching is completed personally by me, ensuring consistency, care, and attention to detail throughout the entire process.

What to Bring & How to Prepare

Newborn sessions are relaxed and baby-led. You should expect to feed your baby (breast or bottle) at least a couple of times during the session, depending on how they settle.

To help everything run smoothly, I recommend:

  • Dressing your baby in an easy-to-remove outfit
  • Using a loose nappy to reduce skin marks
  • Bringing a dummy, if your baby uses one, as it can assist with settling
  • If you have any sentimental items you’d like included—such as special blankets, toys, or heirlooms—you are very welcome to bring them along.

Baby Safety

Your baby’s safety and comfort are always my highest priority. All poses are done gently and safely, and I will never attempt poses that carry any risk of injury. Some popular poses seen online are not used in my sessions for this reason. I’m always happy to talk through this policy and answer any questions you may have.

Session Length

Newborn sessions typically run for 2–3 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, settling, cuddles, and breaks as needed. I work entirely at your baby’s pace to ensure a calm, stress-free experience for everyone.

Parents & Siblings

Parents and siblings are very welcome to be included in the session. These images are usually taken towards the end, when your baby is more likely to want to be held.

If you have young siblings, it can be helpful for them to arrive later in the session, though I understand this isn’t always possible. The studio includes a large television with children’s channels, and there is also a park at the end of my street if the weather allows.

What to Wear

For parent and sibling images, wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I recommend neutral or coordinating tones, and suggest avoiding bold patterns or large logos, as these can distract from the final images.
