CONGRATULATIONS on your impending or new arrival!
Where possible, Canberra newborn photography is best done in the first two weeks after your baby is born. This is when they are most comfortable, sleepy and content during a session. After this, newborns can become more alert and sometimes develop wind and reflux issues which can interfere with their comfort during their session. This is not possible in all cases, and I will do my best to accommodate your baby at whatever age they are available to be photographed.
All newborn photography sessions take place in my home based studio in Flynn. There are two session times available on each day – 10am or 2pm. We estimate a suitable date, approximately two weeks after your due date, and then make changes as necessary once your baby arrives. The earlier you can book in the better, as I can book out months in advance. Payment of the session fee secures your session in my diary.
As a boutique Canberra newborn photography business, I pride myself on creating unique and beautiful art that will be cherished for years to come. I use only the finest handmade accessories and materials during my sessions that can last anywhere from 2-3 hours. You can also be secure in the knowledge that I have invested in state-of-the-art camera equipment and storage systems ensuring your images will be of the highest quality and completely secure. Following your session, I also complete all digital post-processing and fine retouching work personally.
For your photography session, you will need to be prepared to feed your newborn (either breast or bottle) at least a couple of times, depending on how they are adjusting to the process. It is recommended that you bring them dressed in an easily removable outfit, and a loose nappy (to lessen the chance of marks on their body), and to bring their dummy if they use one – this aids in settling your baby into the props and snugly positions.
If you have any sentimental items you would like included in your baby’s photography session, please bring them along. I am happy to work with you to create the images you want, to the best of my ability. However, your baby’s safety is my utmost concern. As such, there are some popular baby poses that I am unwilling to reproduce due to the risk of injury to your newborn. I am happy to discuss any questions you have about this policy.
You can expect the newborn photography session to last anywhere from 2-3 hours. This is so we can capture your baby in the most relaxed and stress-free way. I take my cues from your baby and proceed at a pace that suits their demeanor on the day.
Parent and siblings are welcome to photographed with the baby. This generally occurs towards the end of the photo session, when your baby is more likely to want to be held again. If you have young siblings, I recommend they arrive later, though I understand this is not always possible. My studio area does contain a large television with some Foxtel channels, which the siblings are free to utilise. There is also a park at the end of my street which offers to alleviate any boredom, depending on the weather.
For your parent and/or sibling images, you are welcome to wear whatever you feel comfortable in though bold patterns and large logos are discouraged as they can overpower the final image. My recommendation is for you wear comfortable outfits in matching tones.
